School Meals

Midday meals are cooked and served on the school premises. Our cook provides nourishing and well balanced meals, which appeal to the children.

Since September 2014 all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 (Key Stage 1) are entitled to a universal infant free school meal.

Dinner money for the week for Key Stage 2 children is collected on Monday mornings with each meal currently costing £2.30. If your child is absent later in the week the money will be credited. Alternatively, parents can pay on a half-termly basis. Please put the money in an envelope or purse clearly marked with the child’s name and class. Cheques should be made payable to “Melton Primary School”. Payment for school meals can also be made online at – pay online tab.

Free meals are available to those children whose parents receive certain benefits which are detailed online at Applications can be made online or by completing an application form available from the School or from the Area Education Office. When completed, the form should be sent to the Area Education officer where it will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.

Children whose parents do not wish them to have a school meal may bring a packed lunch, to be eaten in the dining room. All children may bring a drink for breaktime, which should be sent in unbreakable containers and should not include fizzy drinks or milk.

As sweets are not permitted in school, parents are asked not to include these in packed lunches. Chocolate covered biscuits (including Twix, Kit-Kat, Club etc.) are not considered to be sweets.
