School message 01/04/20

We are now halfway through week two of the school closure and we hope you are all keeping well and healthy. We have seen a fantastic response by the children to the online learning suggestions posted and many sound like they are enjoying a whole host of other activities found online or created by parents. I hope, once we are through this period, we have some newly discovered ‘Master Bakers’ who want to demonstrate their skills by providing staff room treats!! I would like to share a huge ‘Thank you’ to all the staff in school who have prepared the learning opportunities to post online and are keeping in touch with you on a regular basis. We have also received some lovely messages from parents thanking the staff and praising the children for their attitudes to work.

I know many of you will have joined-in the much-deserved national appreciation for the NHS last week but I would also like to thank all Key Workers from the Melton community who are playing their part in this national effort. Included in this are our own staff who are continuing to keep school open for the children of ‘critical workers’ to ensure they are able to deliver the important services needed to help the country through this challenging time.

Today we received information from the DfE to register for the Free School voucher scheme. If you are eligible for Free School Meals then you should receive an email in the next couple of days to access a shopping voucher. Please contact me (head@melton.suffolk.sch.uk) if this doesn’t arrive.

Finally, please keep yourselves safe. Follow the government advice on social distancing and hand washing. There is somebody in school every day, please contact us if you require any support or advice. Additional information is also available on our school website. We also ask that you continue to look after each other. If you are concerned about an immediate risk to the safety of a child please call Customer First on 0808 800 4005. The most important thing for us is to ensure all our children and families return to Melton Primary happy and healthy when we finally re-open.

Take care and keep safe.

Alun Davies (Headteacher)
